O projeto CNPq parte da hipótese de que a conjugação ampliada desses conceitos — urbanismo menor, atmosferas, intermediaridades — é capaz de identificar processos de privatização/banalização do espaço e propor alternativas para cidades mais equitativas
. Inserir a noção de ecologia das práticas oferece um quadro metodológico: em vez de buscar síntese ou modelo único, reconhece a pluralidade de práticas (acadêmicas, sociais, comunitárias, artísticas) como produtoras de conhecimento situado.
