O projeto CNPq parte da hipótese de que a conjugação ampliada desses conceitos — urbanismo menor, atmosferas, intermediaridades — é capaz de identificar processos de privatização/banalização do espaço e propor alternativas para cidades mais equitativas
. Inserir a noção de ecologia das práticas oferece um quadro metodológico: em vez de buscar síntese ou modelo único, reconhece a pluralidade de práticas (acadêmicas, sociais, comunitárias, artísticas) como produtoras de conhecimento situado.

Contextualização
Ecologia das práticas é a invenção de maneiras pelas quais práticas diferentes poderiam aprender a coexistir, respondendo a obrigações divergentes. A ecologia da práticas é uma ferramenta não neutra que deve ser usada com determinação e reconhecimento da relevância da situação. Stengers enfatiza que as ferramentas para pensar devem fazer com que a situação nos faça pensar, em vez de simplesmente reconhecer padrões preexistentes. A ecologia das práticas rejeita a destruição capitalista como condição para algo mais importante e busca construir novas identidades práticas.
